These
additional tips come directly from recent reports and are commonly
found in homes in the Houston area. Review each comment and see if it
applies to your home. Fixing these in advance of a home inspection
could save you some money and possibly a sale!
- All
exposed fasteners on the roof (nails,
staples, screws or bolts) should be covered with caulk to prevent
rusting
through and possible water entry.
- Observed
tree branches on or near the roof and
shingles. These branches can cause roof and shingle damage, and should
be
trimmed back.
- Observed
one or more PVC vent pipes that were
not painted. PVC deteriorates in direct UV light and should be painted
where it
is exposed to sunlight.
- Gutters
need general maintenance.
Maintenance
may include one or more of the following: removal of debris, securing
to facia
boards, sealing leaks, securing down spouts, replacing missing splash
blocks,
sections of gutters, and/or down spouts
