If you
have an older home, chances are you have some window screen damage of
some sort. Missing, torn and/or bent window screens are all reasons for
a “In Need of Repair” notation on the Home
Inspection Report.
Often we find that window screens have
been removed and are stacked in the attic or the garage.
Whatever the reason, if the screens are not on the windows, this will
be called out, so be sure to hang your screens before the inspector
arrives.
If you have one missing, then
replacement is your only option. Replacement screens can be a bit
pricey, in the neighborhood of $25.00 or so. Most window companies will
build replacements for you. I recommend shopping around for the best
price you can find.
If the window screen is torn, then a
screen repair kit can be purchased and you can replace the screen
yourself. Since most kits run around $40.00 each, this is only a useful
option if you have several window screens to patch.
If you have undamaged screens on every
window, you will save yourself another mark on the inspectors report.
